The website and the recompilation app

Terms of service

These terms cover OoT: Recompiled: this website, www.ootrecompiled.com, and the Windows recompilation app it offers. They add to my master terms of service, which cover my websites and my web and mobile apps and apply here as written, except where this page says otherwise. The master terms provide that an application's own terms control where the two differ, and this page is those terms for OoT: Recompiled. Using this site, making an account or downloading the recompilation app means you accept both. How information is handled is in the privacy policy.

In short

  • The recompilation app is free and open source, under the GNU General Public License, version 3. That license, not the master terms, decides what you may do with it.
  • No game comes with it. You bring your own copy, and you are responsible for having the right to use it.
  • It is an independent project, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the original publisher of the game.
  • An account is a password and an emailed code, every sign-in, for every account, and that cannot be turned off.
  • What you send can appear on this site under your display name. If you delete your account, what you sent stays, under "Deleted user".

The recompilation app

Its license

The recompilation app's source code is published at github.com/JonB-Dev/oot-recompiled under the GNU General Public License, version 3. That license governs the recompilation app and its code: you may run it, study it, change it and share it, on the conditions the license sets. The master terms' limits on copying, modifying, redistributing, sublicensing and reverse engineering do not apply to the recompilation app or its source code. The projects it is built on keep their own licenses, which are listed on the credits page.

No game is included

The recompilation app contains no part of the original game: no code, no pictures, no sound and no ROM. It runs the game from a ROM you supply, and it accepts one version, NTSC-U 1.0. You are responsible for having the right to use the copy you give it. No ROM is provided by this site, by the recompilation app or by me, and I cannot help anyone find one.

Not affiliated

OoT: Recompiled is an independent project made by one person. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the original publisher of the game or the maker of any console. The names of the original game, its publisher and their consoles are their owners' trademarks.

Downloads and updates

The builds I publish come from releases.jonbarnes.dev, and the installer and the recompilation app are signed by Jonathan Barnes. A copy from anywhere else is not mine, even if it carries the same name, and I cannot vouch for it. The recompilation app's update check is optional and can be turned off at any time; an update is installed only when you choose to install it.

Your files

The recompilation app keeps your saves, settings, captures, mods and texture packs on your own computer. I have no copy of any of them and cannot recover them. Installing an update does not touch your saves. Removing the recompilation app, after it asks twice, deletes its folder with your saves, mods and texture packs in it, as the privacy policy describes. Keep a copy of anything you want to keep.

Mods and texture packs

Mods and texture packs are made by other people, under their own terms. I do not review them and am not responsible for what they do; you are responsible for having the right to use the ones you add.

The website

Accounts

An account is made the first time you send feedback, a feature request or a bug report, and holds your email address, a password and a display name. Every sign-in asks for your password and then a code sent to your email, on every account, administrators included; this cannot be turned off, and a password can be changed only after that code or from a link sent to your email. Keep your password to yourself, and tell me at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account.

Display names

Each email address holds one display name, and a name belongs to the address that used it first. "Deleted user" is reserved and cannot be chosen. Do not use a name that impersonates someone else, or one that is offensive; an account using one may be disabled.

What you send

What you send stays yours. By sending it, you allow me to store it, publish it on this site under your display name, and keep it published. Feedback is published once its confirmation email is delivered; feature requests and bug reports are read first and appear only if I take them up; a log file you attach is never published. Ideas you send may be used in the recompilation app freely, as section 10.3 of the master terms says.

Do not send anything you do not have the right to share, anything about another person they have not agreed to, passwords or keys, or anything unlawful, abusive or meant to mislead.

Moderation

I read what comes in. I may decline to publish anything, take down what is published, disable an account that is used for abuse (with the reason recorded), or delete an account.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from your account page, after typing its address to confirm, and an administrator can delete an account from the admin page. Deleting removes your sign-in, your email address, your display name (which becomes free for someone else) and any log files you attached. What you sent stays on the site, under "Deleted user", and can never be tied to you or to any other account again. This replaces the part of section 13.1 of the master terms that says your content is removed when your account is deleted, and the permission above to keep showing what you sent continues after the deletion. To have a particular thing you sent taken down, before or after deleting your account, email [email protected]. The privacy policy lists everything that goes and everything that stays.

Use of the site

Section 8 of the master terms applies. In particular, do not send messages by script, and do not try to get around the bot check, the rate limit, the emailed code, or anyone else's account.

Law and contact

Section 18 of the master terms applies: the laws of North Carolina govern these terms, and before anything else I ask that we try to settle a disagreement by talking for at least thirty days. Questions about these terms can be sent to [email protected].
